Gold Purity

Understanding karat, fineness, and how we ensure every gram of gold meets its stated purity.

Karat and fineness explained

Gold purity is measured in karats (K) or parts per thousand (fineness). 24K = 999.9 fine (pure gold), 22K = 916 fine (91.6% gold), 18K = 750 fine (75% gold), 14K = 585 fine (58.5% gold).

For jewellery, pure 24K gold is too soft for everyday wear. We work primarily in 22K (traditional Indian jewellery) and 18K (contemporary, gem-set pieces), alloys carefully chosen for durability and lustre.

How we verify purity

Every piece undergoes XRF (X-ray fluorescence) testing at our in-house quality lab before hallmarking. After internal QC, pieces are sent to a BIS-empanelled assay and hallmarking centre for independent certification.

The resulting HUID (Hallmark Unique ID) and purity mark are stamped on the piece and recorded in our system. You can independently verify any piece using the BIS CARE mobile application.

Gold colour and alloy composition

Yellow gold retains the warm classic tone through copper and silver alloying. Rose gold (our 'Rose Bloom' shade) uses a higher copper ratio for a rosy warmth. White gold (our 'Snowfall White') is alloyed with palladium or nickel and typically rhodium-plated for brightness.

Colour does not affect karat purity. An 18K rose gold piece and an 18K yellow gold piece both carry 750 fineness — the difference is in the non-gold alloy metals only.

Care for gold's purity

Avoid strong chemicals (bleach, chlorine, acids) that can damage gold alloys over time. Store in a soft-lined box away from other metal pieces. Annual professional polishing restores lustre without removing material.
